Thanks CAP21!

On Monday night April 11th, Camp Broadway had the amazing opportunity to attend the CAP21 Spring Gala and Benefit Concert honoring Jason Robert Brown and Georgia Stitt. CAP21 is a non-profit Musical Conservatory Program founded in 1993 by Frank and Eliza Ventura, the hosts of the night. All the proceeds from the event will go to new work produced at CAP21. For more info on the program, check out the website at http://www.cap21.org

After a lovely cocktail party where Camp Broadway Alums Sarah Hutton, Brittany Kaplan, and Sunny Naughton were reunited over ten years later, everyone settled in for a wonderful show. Throughout the evening, Jason and Georgia told stories of their union (they are married,) their work together and apart (this was their second time working together onstage,) and lots of anecdotes and stories of their music, lyrics, friends, and shows throughout the years. It was a truly amazing experience as it always is to get to listen to and watch live performances from the people who created the music you may have only heard on a recording.

Some highlights of the evening included Glee’s Matthew Morrison, a CAP21 Alum accepting via a video the very first Distinguished Alumni Award, the chorus of 40 CAP21 students backing many of the performances, as well as several Broadway stars stopping by to sing the music of their friends. Christopher Jackson (The Lion King, In the Heights,) Lauren Kennedy (Monty Python’s Spamalot, Sunset Boulevard,) and Jessica Molaskey (Sunday in the Park with George, Parade, Tommy) were just a few of Jason and Georgia’s close friends that stopped by to celebrate this talented duo and share their own talent with the awe struck audience.

It was a night to remember, and Camp Broadway is so excited to have been a part of it.
