Camp Broadway was recently invited to a party at http://www.davenporttheatrical.com to test out a new board game, Be a Broadway Star brought to you by http://www.broadwayspace.com and boy was it a fun time!
The game is reminiscent of Monopoly but with many more twists and turns as you try to make it to the "Broadway Hall of Fame." You earn money and build your resume through audition cards, and as you move along you can also hire agents, join Equity (the professional actors union,) and get a publicist to really make it to the top! Probably the most fun parts are during the “Make or Break” cards that require players to sing, dance, and perform for their competitors!
The game was conceived by Ken Davenport, the creator of http://www.broadwayspace.com, which is a social networking site for theatre fans. After having seen many fans come up with games on the website, Ken decided to create a board game geared towards Broadway. The board game made its debut in November 2010 and sold 1000 games in 25 days, and was even recently featured on the fourth hour of the Today Show as one of Kathie Lee and Hoda’s Favorite Things!
